What is a Password Protected Directory?
A password protected directory is a directory that requires a viewer to enter a username and password before viewing the contents of that directory. Access to this directory can be given to one or many users. If you do not create any users to access the directory, no one will be able to view it through the web.
For example: If you had a directory of family images that you wanted to be only accessible to the members of your family, you could password protect it. Then you could add the user family with password photos4me so that your family members could access the images with that username and password combination.
This can also be used to password protect files that are not images. For example, a members area of a site, or a download area. You cannot password protect an individual file so, all files in the directory will require a password for access.
What is a Resource Name?
This is the name that will appear in the authentication window of a visitor's web browser. This is the window where a visitor would enter their username and password.
